Exodus 20:3-6 ESV
“You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments
I had a conversation with someone yesterday that turned into me giving my opinion on a certain rapper. Immediately, the person said, “don’t talk about ( I will not name the rapper)”. It quickly made me think about how much support we give people who don’t even know us yet… we can’t even lend a helping hand to the people to the left and right of us. Furthermore, we have to discipline ourselves to want to study about the Lord, but it’s nothing to research a celebrities’ life of the latest fashion, song, or bad thing that has happened. New episodes of sitcoms, what celebrity has cheated or done something crazy, newly released video games and so forth have taken the place of things and people really important. The worst things are praised now, and the things that matter seem to be prohibited and a foreign language today. I ask us today. Who do we worship? What are you addicted to and don’t know it? Is there a certain singer or rapper you just can’t fathom not listening to a certain song by them daily? Do you get excited to see them on television? Here is the real question… do you have that same excitement when someone says something about the Lord or something that actually matters that will benefit you? Or are you “faking the funk” and really turning a deaf ear… Only you know. I charge us to take a look at our lives and be real with ourselves on what is really important. So I ask again… Who do you worship?
